When 15 majority bloc senators agreed to move for the change of Senate leadership last week, Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III stepped down and Senator Vicente "Tito" Sotto III took over the leadership on Monday. Senate President Sotto said in his speech to pass more laws that will benifit the country and the Filipino. "I hereby pledge to continue in helping in the passage of laws that will be beneficial to the country and to every Filipino and to continue as well the diligence and dedication of Sen. Koko Pimentel who has been the principal author and sponsor of many landmark laws," he said. On 1998, when Sotto was the the vice mayor of Quezon City, he campaigned against illegal drugs. He also founded and organized Quezon City Anti-Drug Council. On July 2008 to November 2009, he chaired the Senate committee on illegal drugs and led the Dangerous Drug Board.
